Segundo (Hotel Monopoli) Jakarta

Sunday brunch is a thing in the Western World, bulking Sunday with fam is the kind-of habit that we have in Asia. It always involves carbs - I’m talking about next level carbs of either Noodle or Rice. This time, I’m mixing my “Sunday Brunch” with our ‘Asian meal.’

Located near Kemang in South Jakarta, the newly opened Segundo is located inside Hotel Monopoli. Now, who doesn’t know Hotel Monopoli? Apparently it’s one of the Instagrammable spots, many influencers visited this place just to get those Gram mode on, but imma talk about Segundo now. It’s pretty much modern design with a touch of contemporary art, this restaurant is quite big for starters.

Let’s talk about their menu. Segundo divide their menu into two parts: One side is Western dish focusing on Spanish and Another is more into Asian food focusing more into Indonesian. The bad thing about this place is their coffee - it’s the quickest way for me to say “Thank U, Next.” But let’s talk into details below!

FOOD RUNDOWN:

- Latte : I’m sorry Segundo, I’m gonna say I was quite disappointed with your latte. Not the right place to get your caffeine fix here, the milk is just too much, coffee temperature is just not hot enough. It’s just didn’t work, we can’t ever get along.

- Tapas Platter ( Selection of the day by chef’s creation with pita bread ): At first, I wasn’t sure what to expect - tbh I would get the usual Spanish platter with your kind of tortillas but I guessed wrong. I doubt it would taste good but after one bite, it’s actually good! My most fav from here? Their mushrooms, hands down.

- Banana Bread: If you must know, I can never resist a Banana Bread even tho I’m on a carbs diet. Long story short I was pretty surprise with the kind of Banana Bread that I got and expected it would be overly sweet because of the cream as their topping. Surprisingly, it works and it’s actually good! I am a sweet tooth but not really just because my preference of sweetness is kinda below expectation. But this one, it’s definitely a must order.

- Bakmi Segundito (Cantonese Noodle with Smoked Minced Chicken, Mushroom, Prawn, Fish Ball & Boiled Chicken Wanton) : Welcome to the world of Asian ‘brunch.’ My dad is a noodle fan and when he realized they have Bakmi, he insist for me to order it for him. One word: Approved!

- Nasi Goreng Ikan Asin (Pungent & Spicy Fried Rice with Borneo Salty Fish, Fresh Petai with Fresh Green Chili Sambal & Emping) : Fried rice can never go wrong! It’s quite simple but spicy! I love how they include kind of like omelette inside!

Overall, I think this place deserves a 7/10. It’s somehow underrated cause people barely review their food quality here. Gotta say they’re one of the good ones for you to chill with your fam!
