Twelve Chinese Dining - Jakarta
Authentic. That’s what I thought once I entered Twelve Chinese Dining that’s located in Menteng area. With the interior of authentic Chinese design complete with the twelve Chinese zodiac as their wall painting - I was completely amazed with how the place looks like.
Twelve Chinese Dining recently opened early this year and it’s actually part of Okuzono group. I was quite confident that their food are supposedly amazin’ cause Okuzono’s dish was just .. perfection. They have a choice of some dim sum to big portion dishes that’s good to share.
Let us take a look on the food rundown and see from there - shall we?
Food Rundown:
Prawn with Yuzu Mayonaise and Bonito Flakes - a good dish to enjoy for you to share with your family and friends. Honestly the Yuzu Mayonaise is quite strong in a good way and the fried prawn is just wow.
Steamed Fish with XO Sauce - Ahhh I had a high expectation for this one.. sadly, it just didn’t made the cut. The sauce is just too water-y and a bit bland. If they could’ve made the sauce thicker and add more spices.. this would be the perfect dish fo me!
Fried Rice with Seafood Sauce - I was quite in shock looking at its appearance cause it looks kinda like a meh fried rice. Tastewise.. it’s just okay just like a regular seafood fried rice, nothing special - DTF’s Fried Rice is still my favorite unfortunately. But good enough if you’d like to have a filling lunch!
Stir Fried Pokchoy with Garlic - simple, sharp, to-the-point. It’s alright, nothing special.
Broccoli with Konbu Sauce - the texture of the broccoli is on the softer side, it’s good enough if you like something simple.
Ebi Chili with Almond Skin - ooookay, this is a whole new different world. The sauce gives you like a familiar taste but in a richer way. YEEES! gotta order this when you’re here. one of the highlights!
Oyster Sauce Seafood Fried Noodles - skip it! this is too oily for me.
Fried Purple Sweet Potato Sesame Ball - eh. its not bad for dessert.
can’t remember the cocktail names but all I remember is the left sideis a complete NO-NO and the right side is quite ok but…. damn issa strong.
Overall - I was quite disappointed with how Twelve Chinese Dining cause their food was not extremely good compared to their other restaurant - Okuzono. It seems that when I went there, the waiters were kinda overwhelmed because it was a bit over-packed. I wanted to order their most popular dishes but they said it’s sold out (when it was only 12noon and they opened at 11 or 11:30 am) - pretty odd eh? If you ask me will I ever come back? The answer is probably not, but I’d recommend for you to visit at least once just to see how amazing their interior is. Sorry but all you get is a 5.5/10 from me.
